Wadsworth Falls SP

Date: Jan. 1, 2012
Report Type: TA Report:
Trail Name: Wadsworth Falls SP
Town: Middlefield and Middletown
Trail Conditions: Mud season has come early
Observations/Information: I attended a New Haven Hiking Club hike on a day that turned out to be warm enough to bike. The Yellow Trail was a sea of mud, and spotty sections of mud could be found in many places. There were more blowdowns at Wadsworth Falls than I have seen in any other place I have been this year. Someone has been working hard because they have all be cleared. All along the trails are piles of broken limbs. The falls are really roaring. The place was hopping with 30 people from the NHHC group, another 20 walkers from Southern Conn. Cycle Club, most of whom converged on the Wadsworth Mansion for the annual New Year's Day open house. There were families with kids, and also dog walkers out, plus a father and daughter mountain biker. Everyone was in a good mood with the seasonably warm, sunny weather.
