Roosevelt Forest

Date: 3/5/13
Report Type: TA Report:
Trail Name: Roosevelt Forest
Town: Stratford
Trail Conditions: Mostly snow covered, some rideable breaks
Observations/Information: I live on the coastline and the 38" of snow is for the most part gone. I decided to ride nearby in Stratford, assuming the conditions were the same. They were not...I took my bike for a walk in the woods, occassionally finding a bare spot to ride on. I came upon the blue trail, an old wood road, it was plowed, amazing. It appeared that they were doing some logging and therefore the road was plowed. If you go to the forest, the blue trail is on the left just before the entaurance, they gravelled the trailhead. It is not lengthy or technical, has some ups and downs if you want to get out and get your bike dirty. Do not park here, go on to the parking lot. Other highlights, the police firing range on the property was in use, hearing gun shots in the woods always makes me feel welcome, one of the wood plank bridges was partially submerged, rendering it impassable, a lot of water collecting in the pond and swampy areas.
