Date of Activity: May 16, 2010
Condition of Trail(s): Good, dry.

Trail Ambassador Name: Paula Burton & Glenn Vernes
Trail Ambassador Email: glennvernes33athotmaildotcom
Town: Newtown
Location: Upper Paugussett State Forest
Trail(s) Ridden: Upper Gussy, fire road
How did you use the trail?: Mountain Bike
What was the time of day?: Late Morning
Duration (Hours): 1.5
Distance (Miles): 8 or 10

Observations: This if a fun trail with good flow and moderate technical challenge. Only problems were a large tree down at about the halfway point, a lot of sticks and twigs down (we picked up what we could), and it appears that horses have post-holed one of the benched sections. We rode it counter-clockwise, taking the fire road to the top of the trail. There's less singletrack climbing in this direction (you climb on the fire road), but it would be doable either way.

Do yourself a favor and avoid the blue trail that leads out of the parking lot, as it's no fun to ride. In fact, the bypass constitutes one of the best parts of the trail.

We were surprised to see two other groups of riders on the trail. Both gave it favorable reviews.

If you don't know the trail you'd be well advised to get a map, as it's unblazed and can be hard to find.
