Hurd State Park

Date: December 5, 2012
Report Type: TA Report:
Trail Name: Hurd State Park
Town: Middle Haddam
Trail Conditions: Good, some blown
Observations/Information: I did a solo quickie at Hurd late Wednesday afternoon. The warm sunshine of mid-afternoon was gone and the wind had blown in clouds and chilly air. I wanted to try out my new Oury grips. They worked well and, being thicker than normal grips, made the rigid riding experience a little more comfortable. The thickness takes some getting used to, though.

I stuck to the "gnome built" trails in the park's center. They were in good shape and dry. It appears that the gnomes have gotten their hands on a leaf blower because some of the trails (the blue in particular) have been blown clear. They have also been busy in other ways as I found a new trail. It's more freeride with a lot of hucks and rollers. Overall it's well built and avoids the fall line. The gnomes are learning how to build freeride trails. It's amazing that I never see a gnome trail in the process of being built, always the finished product. I guess the gnomes, like Santa Claus, are able to do it all in one night.
