Trail Name: Roosevelt Forest
Town: Stratford
Trail Conditions: dry and beautiful
Observations/Information: Roosevelt Forest, the friendly forest. During my ride I first encountered an off leash dog and the owner. The dog appeared to not have a liking for bikes, growled and barked at me as I slowed down to a crawl. The owner informed me that he was friendly and would not bite me and repeatedly resorted to verbal discipline. This eventually worked and the owner repeatedly apologized for her dog's behavior. Then I met a hiker. I exchanged a greeting commenting that Spring has arrived (today was sunny and 70 degrees). His response was 'listen to the frogs in their ponds.' And finally towards the end of my ride I met a jogger. We exchanged greetings and he repeatedly stated, 'what a day, what a day'. Imaging shared trail use in a town forest. What a concept. And finally I encountered two women sitting on a bridge, actually totally blocking the bridge for any other traffic as they smoked their cigarettes. Beautiful day to be outdoors with a smoke. They did not hear me approaching, apologized and I passed. A short distance away I passed an SUV. Oh now I get it, get an SUV to drive as close to the trail head, the bridge over the stream and sit on the bridge and smoke. Great exercise. However, maybe it was not their SUV and I am making up this tall tale. Anyway, great day to be out in the forest and to share it with so many!
