Date: April 2, 2011
Report Type: TA Report
Trail Name: River Highlands State Park
Town: Cromwell
Trail Conditions: Mostly dry, lots of sticks
Observations/Information: Rode the Blow Hole Saturday afternoon. The trails were almost completely dry. Only near the swamp and at the top of the yellow trail was it wet, and these areas are both easy to get around. There were a lot of derailleur eating sticks down, though. I picked up what I could, and also cut a tree that was partially blocking the yellow trail. I saw a lot of bike tracks, more than I'd ever seen here before. They came in off the RR tracks behind the golf course. Maybe a big group ride recently. I aslo encountered a young woman on a big brown horse that left a big brown pile of you-know-what on the red trail.
If you're looking for a place around Middletown to ride this weekend, the Blow Hole would be a good choice. With all the rain and snow we've had, this fast-drying area is a great resource. Get out and ride before the next rain event Sunday night.

Glenn, next time ask her if she wouldn't mind curbing her horse or rather than turning a blind eye to the road apples to kick them off the trail when she sees them.
