Quillinan Reservoir

Date: 9/3/2014
Report Type: TA Report
Trail Name: Quillinan Reservoir
Town: Seymour/Ansonia

Trail Conditions: Tacky (but not muddy) in spots from the rain

Observations/Information: I had heard from my family yesterday afternoon that someone dumped some junk over in the Rimmon parking lot, so I informed DEEP and said I'd head over in the morning to see if it was so. Sho nuff:

Anyway, since I was there, and the orange beast was still in the back of the truck, a ride it was. I started off on basically the same loop as last week. The backside log ramp on the first log coming down the hill had been blown out - which I didn't see until I was on my way over (and almost dumped it).

Up the hill, but this time didn't take the right onto the trail down to the reservoir, but kept up the hill, over the culvert coming up (it gets pretty steep and washed out around that corner), and onto the trails up top.

I made a brief excursion down the trail that leads (I think??) out near the Nature Center, but decided it was for another day and went back.

You could tell the trails picked up some rain the other day. Nothing muddy, tacky in spots, and the surface duff had been moved around by the water.

(My riding was pretty bad this morning, even by my standards. I had to stop several and many times, dumped it here and there, ...)

TM = the usual (clearing the odd branch).

Rode here for the first time this afternoon, gotta say I was thoroughly impressed with the trail network that I suspect was heavily influenced by riders (too much flow for a hiking trail). Plenty of elevation and long descents by CT standards with enough tech thrown in to keep things interesting. I'll be riding here weekly from now on if you're ever looking for someone to ride with
