Naugatuck State Forest

Report Type: TA Report:
Trail Name: Naugatuck State Forest
Town: Oxford/Beacon Falls
Trail Conditions: Good/Branches/Litter
Observations/Information: A friend was in from Kalamazoo, so we took the opportunity to walk the NSF (West Block) to find the trail to the east side of Res 2...

...which was in plain sight the whole time (of course) - funny what walking (and in the reverse direction from what I usually ride) will reveal (about both trail and rider 8^)

Walked in from the Res 4 parking area, took the trail down past the old car, right to the tree across the trail at the intersection, left up to the next intersection then right and up the "plunge" - at the intersection with the fire road branch (near the power lines), straight across.

Trail is, for the most part, rideable, or would be were it not for copious branches down (big and small) - I removed what I could with the small hand saw I had, but there are still some big'uns. Be advised the trail exits the NSF and crosses briefly onto Town of Beacon Falls land.

Continued around Res 2 and up to the west side of Res 3 (which is still plenty gnarly with pine litter from logging), and out.

I'll try getting back in there for a ride (and more branch-clearing), maybe Sunday.

Plenty of stuff on the ground hiding obstacles, so be careful.
