Cockaponset SF - Weber Woods section

Date: 27 Sep; 12,15, 17 Oct; 2, 17, 18, 21, 25 Nov 2012
Report Type: TA Report:
Trail Name: Cockaponset SF - Weber Woods section
Town: Clinton, Deep River, Killingworth and West Brook
Trail Conditions: Dry - Blowdowns
Observations/Information: Nine separate mountain bike adventures utilising CSF and CLCT property trails. Trails are generally clear except for the occasional downed tree requiring an axe or buck saw to clear. In Weber Woods where the Ylw and Wht Trs coincide thru the beaver pond flooded section, noticed a few planks in the swampy area possibly to provide access for digi-picturing or adventure. Planks may have been re-located from just west of the bridge over Falls Brook that feeds Horse Pond. See digi-pix 1 and 2. Noticed evidence of a heavy vehicle on a few of the WW trails-maybe Conn. DEEP bird stocking. No significant discussions with the various people encountered.

Three additional adventures on foot with family or alone. On 17 Nov walked over to the Weber Woods Upper Gun Running field (aka Upper Dog Training)in pursuit of stocked pheasant. On 19 Nov spoke briefly with three evening trail runners. They had covered about 10Km, following reflector marked game trails for a portion of their run. A family visit on 22 Nov to the airplane crash site found the right wing piece was finally blown out of the tree it was stuck in since 10 Jun '11.

On 5-6-7OCT12 participated in a Green Mountain Club Conn. Section Long Trail Maintenance event based at Story Spring Shelter.
