Cockaponset SF - Weber Woods section

Date: 11JUN12
Report Type: TA Report:
Trail Name: Cockaponset SF - Weber Woods section
Town: Deep River
Trail Conditions: Mostly Dry with some Wet Areas
Observations/Information: Made the rounds on many of the Weber Woods Trails. Riding conditions were good excepting a few of the usual muddy areas. Dismount to minimize LNT principles. A quad had been racing around the area. I attach a not-too-clear digi-pic of Grn Tr quad damage. Continued on the Grn Tr towards the new bridge crossing the Falls River. A large fallen beech tree at the intersection of the north end of an orange flagged trail-in-progress from the Wht Tr heading north on the west side of Falls River to the Grn Tr. See attached digi-pic. On Sunday, 10 June, I had spoken with Park Manager A. Sokolow who was documenting graffiti and an oil spill at the carpark across from Messerschmidt Pond dam. He was not familiar with the orange flagged trail-in-progress. TA Hazuka will be contacted regarding this flagged trail's future. Continued on along clearing a few blowdowns and stream crossings. Crossed over SRte 145 to an un-marked trail on the south side of Messerschmidts. Stopped at a mudhole and turned back. Heard but did not see horses on the Grn Tr. No cars in the SRte 145 carpark. No contacts on this day.
