Condition of trail(s): Mostly in good shape
Trail Ambassador Name: Don Hazuka
Encounters and Observations: Left work a few minutes (ok, hours) early to hopefully beat the rain (nope) to get in a ride; after the rain let up, I headed out to the more remote section of the parcel on the yellow and white trails; one note to the idiot who left the three tires at the trailhead to my house: “hey jerk, rubber is NOT biodegradable!”- I’m sure I’ll end up dragging them out and hauling them to the dump ($); trails were in pretty good shape with a little standing water in low spots and very slick rocks and roots; made frequent stops to clean up fallen branches all along the way out and back; there is still that nasty spot to cross before yellow turns to
white which is muddy but passable now due to the dry weather- I’ll need to consult with some trail building elders on how to repair this area; also, beavers have damned up a section of the yellow that has not been passable for over a year- what once was a rough detour has now become the main route; this is probably a lost cause at this point because the original section of the trail is heavily overgrown so the new route should be tended to going forward; I took the white trail which is almost never an option due to the beaver work there with water and mud, but because of the dry weather, you currently can get through; the little devils have dropped trees all over this stretch and it looks/feels like a scene out of Deliverance; I haven’t actually seen one yet, but they have a couple of good sized lodges built so it is just a matter of time; looped around and stopped by the west parking lot and was happy to see no litter; didn’t see anyone the entire time; finished the loop wet and muddy at the door of my garage refrigerator; another great time.
