I started a little after 9 AM, coming in from the Whitney Ave north entrance to the park. It was a gorgeous sunny day.The new trail built just south of the Rusty River (Orange Stream) is a great trail but it drops rapidly to the stream at the end in a fall line. It is unfortunately already seeing wear and tear and erosion from both bikers skidding on their descent and rain's inevitable coursing towards the path of least resistance. To counter this, as a first step, I built a short S curve alt route off the steepest part. It's a bit raw still and needs more benching and less organic surface but it should wear in well with usage, Although only a short stretch, in the interim it will function well as an alternate route for an easier climb. With a bit more work at a later date (berming the curve, benching more, etc.) it could be a fun fast swervy descent, and help move traffic away from the now-starting-to-erode fall line section.

Further trails and DEP-approved reroutes are in the works for this area, I thought it wise to gradually upgrade "the flow" - it will tie in better with what's to come...Took a couple of pics of the Rusty River crossing (for the forthcoming area project). Finally--while leaving--I ran into a couple of bikers who expressed a great interest in helping out with trail maintenance and have signed up on the TTC site.
