Naugatuck State Forest

Date: 7/20/2014
Report Type: TA Report
Trail Name: Naugatuck State Forest
Town: Oxford/Beacon Falls
Trail Conditions: Typical Naugy

Observations/Information: I took the orange beast in to Naugy West Block Sunday AM to conclude what should have been Friday morning's ride, had I not lost the front brake.

In at Res 4, and up the east side, hike-a-bike up the steep, nasty fall line to the power lines and out to the beaver pond, down the fire road (with a brief excursion on the power line trail) to the first fire road branch, right just past the stream crossing to the badly washed out area, left at the junction at the bottom down to the junction with the big tree across it, then down to Res 2, around and up to Res 3 and back to the Res 4 lot.

The rough patches are still plenty rough, with a washed-out mix of big rocks and loose stones. Big puddles in the usual place up top at the power lines (but overall pretty dry). I stopped on the fire road branch up top to do some much-needed lopping of brambles that were trying to take over. (I still have blood stains on a tech shirt from hitting one last season.) Also stopped now and again to toss sticks off trail.

There's still a big tree across the fire road from Res 2 to the west side of Res 3, right about at the double culvert before the big hill.

Saw a jogger and two dog-walkers (one on the fire road up top, one on the Res 2 loop).
