Naugatuck State Forest

Date: 4/21/13
Report Type: TA Report:
Trail Name: Naugatuck State Forest
Town: Oxford
Trail Conditions: Varies
Observations/Information: Did a quick Sunday AM ride around the reservoir end of the Naugatuck State Forest (West), mainly to assess given the ongoing logging operation there.

Active logging west of Res 3. Last time I was through the pine litter made the trail all but impassable; better now, but still enough litter to pose a significant risk of a piece hopping up and breaking something. North of Res 3, significant storm damage is evident (e.g. two instances of washed-out culverts).

Rest Is good to fair: there are still some blowdowns that haven't been cleared; some washed-out areas; vehicle tracks left by the logging machines.

Next trip in, I want to get into the trails to the north. Last time through (last season), there was some pretty significant storm damage in places.
