River Highlands State Park

Date: February 2, 2013
Report Type: TA Report:
Trail Name: River Highlands State Park
Town: Cromwell
Trail Conditions: Good, dry, twiggy
Observations/Information: Brother and I rode River Highlands Saturday afternoon. Shake down ride for my new wheelset. Everything worked fine and, whoever said "the wheels make the bike" had it right. Lightweight wheels make a bike do everything better- climbing, turning, braking, accelerating, and even things like hopping logs.

As expected, a lot of sticks and twigs came down in the windstorm of last Wednesday night. No trees came down, though, and it could have been a lot worse. We spent a fair amount of time picking it up.

Trails were in good shape notwithstanding the sticks and twigs. Ground was frozen hard, and a liitle patch of ice at the top of the yellow trail. We saw evedence of dirt bikes or quads entering the park from the cul-de-sac at the south end. Also, the neighborhood dogs have been using that area for a pooping gallery, so beware.
