Wadsworth Falls SP

Date: January 25, 2013
Report Type: TA Report:
Trail Name: Wadsworth Falls SP
Town: yMiddletown/Rockfall
Trail Conditions: God, clear, a little ice.
Observations/Information: I rode Wadsworth Falls Friday afternoon. I wanted to assess the condition of the trails before the Winterfest ride on Sunday. I'm happy to report they're in good shape.

The gnomes have recently been busy clearing blowdowns. They have cut the big one on Taco Bell, just behind the red-roofed house that gives the trail its name, but they only cut a small segment, creating a "wuss line" and a "honch line" (see photo). I cut a tree across the blue trail, just at the base of the gravity cavity, that was blocking the trail at neck height, ready to decapitate the unwary.

I rode every trail at least once, and they were all clear. The ground was of course frozen as hard as a rock and there was an inch or less of snow on the shaded hillsides. The biggest concern was ice. There were various patches of it on the carriage roads and quite a bit on the red trail near the four corners. It was of the smooth slick type, not the rumpled and slightly grippy type. This is to be expected in January. The stream through the little falls was frozen hard. I passed one other rider, a young guy on a Kona 29er.

So the trails are in great shape for the Winterfest ride on Sunday. Meet in the main lot on Rt 157 at noon. Afterward we'll head to CFPA Headquarters nearby for a movie, swag raffle, catered meal, adult beverages. and conversation. Oh, and be sure to RSVP.
