Cockaponset SF - Weber Woods section

Date: January 6, 2013
Report Type: TA Report:
Trail Name: Cockaponset SF - Weber Woods section
Town: Clinton, Westbrook
Trail Conditions: Melting snow, sloppy
Observations/Information: Got out for a hike in the late afternoon and treaded the green east; the trails were heavily traveled and the melting snow made it tough to make good time without slipping; I took off for a bushwhack hike off the green looking for possible new trails when I came across five collier fireplaces in rough shape within a 50 yard perimeter deep in the woods; continued on and came out on the southern orange and when I came to the red, there was a huge downed oak blocking the trail.
I continued on the red west and connected with the blue and then back to the green; I didn't see anyone the whole time and did the last half hour of my hike in the dark, but with the bright snow it was no problem following the trail home.

Re. CSF Weber Woods: Have not gotten over to Red and the tree down, but have seen a few elsewhere. There are stone and log ride-overs which are better than cutting-provides a little challenge and discourages motors.
