West Rock Ridge SP

Date: Dec. 8, 2012
Report Type: TA Report:
Trail Name: West Rock Ridge SP
Town: Hamden-New Haven
Trail Conditions: Generally clear and dry
Observations/Information: I did a 9 mile hike at West Rock that included the Red Trail from the South Overlook to the southern tip of Lake Wintergreen, and then the White Trail along Lake Wintergreen. Generally the trails are clear. I dealt with a couple of small blowdowns along the way, such as a few small trees along the narrow section of the Red Trail south of Lake Wintergreen. There are two large blowdowns involving multiple trees on the Red Trail south of the main entrance. I reported this to the state, as I cannot clear 18-diameter trees with a handsaw. The trail surfaces are generally firm and dry.
