TM Report: Bluff Point State Park

EveryTrail - Find trails in CT and beyond

Date: 7/21/2012
Report Type: TM Report:
Trail Name: Bluff Point State Park
Town: Groton
Trail Conditions: Still overgrown
Observations/Information: Thom, Glenn and I got a start on the massive pruning/trimming project that is Bluff Point. We managed to clear most of the trails near the parking lot. After a quick lunch Glenn and I went for a spin around the loop I plan to use at the MBAS. The trail surface was in good shape, just damp from the recent rain and cooler weather. Still several sections are badly overgrown but "others" have been in to cut back some previously impassable sections. The airport approach was surprisingly clear. Still plenty to do between now and Aug 12.

Report Type: TM Report:
Trail Name: Bluff Point State Park
Town: Groton
Trail Conditions: Overgrown!
Observations/Information: Thom. Cory, and I did some brush clearing at Bluff Point in preparation for the upcoming MBAS ride there. We used pruners, loppers, and weed cutters (sort of a modern version of that old Communist standby, the sickle). We beat back the weeds and pirickers on some of the trails near the parking lot. There's still a lot more work to do, and there will be TM every Saturday morning until the event. Go help if you can. Afterward Cory and I went for a ride, and I got cut up pretty badly by the prickers we didn't get.
