Wadsworth Falls SP

Date: June 16, 2012
Report Type: TA Report:
Trail Name: Wadsworth Falls SP
Town: Middletown
Trail Conditions: Good, but getting overgrown
Observations/Information: I hit up Wadsworth after work Saturday. The park was very busy with swimmers and picnicers. There was a little pandamonium in the parking lot with a loose, but freindly, dog running around, its owners unable to corral it. There were a lot of walkers on the trails (not hikers, because hikers don't wear swim trunks and bikinis).

The trails are starting to get overgrown. Brush is growing in on the sides. Some of the brush is prickers, and my arms and legs got cut up a little. That short side trail to the school in Rockfall is almost impassible now, as is the unmarked singletrack from red to yellow. Be careful at the top of the other unmarked singletrack, from orange to blue, as prickers are growing there too. The trail surface was great, nice and tacky for traction and dust control.

I spent some time of the bike cleaning up the white trail, including the tree at the runout from the gravity cavity. That had been there too long, and my folding TA saw made quick work of it. The trail surface is still messed up there, and it slows you down a little. You're no longer hitting that blind right hander after the cavity with so much speed. Probably not a bad thing because it was an accident waiting to happen.

I also saw the grass clippings Barry Burke talks about in his recent report. It's at the bottom of the "Taco Bell" trail, just off the orange road past the wooden bridge. They're being dumped right in the trail, and I find this a little annoying. The guy's got an impressively lush, green lawn, but I wish he'd carry the clippings a little further instead of dumping them in the trail.

The trails at Wadsworth are in good condition overall and ready to ride, just watch out for walkers and prickers.
