TA Report: Collis P Huntington SP

Tree down on blue trail

Date: 9/25/2011
Report Type: TA Report:
Trail Name: Collis P Huntington SP
Town: Redding
Trail Conditions: Wet, wet, wet!

Observations/Information: If you can wait a few days, please do so. 5 inches of rain on Friday makes for sloppy trails at Huntington.

Paula and I headed out on the blue trail and found a tree down and combined with what I saw last weekend this blue trail section down to South Pond needs a make over.

Paula finally picked up where I left off last weekend marking the new trail. We spent some time lining up the trail route through a nice glade with some nice tight turns to check your speed and then blasts you over a few stream crossings, down a nice descent, over a cool BFR (big fuggin rock) and then into another cool glade. This trail is going to be awesome!

Found an interesting thing in the woods just to north of South Pond.  It was a little road leading down from the South Pond Carriage Road that ended in a Bridge Abutment.  If you got to the end of the abutment and looked due west you will see a similar abutment across the valley, perhaps 300 feet.  My guess is there was a wooden bridge spanning this that connected to the other side of the park.
