Hop River State Rail Trail

Date: Aug 30, 2011
Report Type: TA Report:
Trail Name: Hop River State Rail Trail
Town: Vernon-Bolton
Trail Conditions: Ride with caution!
Observations/Information: The post hurricane Irene riding will be difficult for many New England areas. The Hop River has many branches, sticks, and large tree blow-downs along its trail. I was able to cut up some smaller sapplings and clear branches on Monday afternoon. Bolton Public Works was out doing clean-up in the Notch area. There were contractors out to cutting down larger trees leaning unsafely over the trail. On Tuesday evening, (10) LTRA biking members cleared the trails using axes and man-power. My observation is that many "friends of the Hop River" have pitched in their time and effort to help make the trail usable for all. The Manchester, Vernon, and Bolton communities should be proud of their citizens.
