TA Report: West Rock State Park

Date: 4/7/11
Report Type: TA Report
Trail Name: West Rock State Park
Town: Hamden/New Haven
Trail Conditions: A bit damp, some mud puddles.
Observations/Information: I pulled into the parking lot at Lake Wintergreen and was pleased to see other mountain bikers, thinking maybe we could ride together. Then I saw them ride off, without helmets and one was talking on his cell phone. I have not been to the park for quite some time, the trails are very well used, numerous trail braids around mud and puddles (and I thought mountain bikes can ride through mud and water, mine did). I had a good ride, only one other mountain biker riding the other direction who did not stop to chat. The 'chance of thunder showers' materialized when I was on top of the mountain and turned to spotty showers once off the mountain and back at the parking lot.

Ed, next time, you should remind them that they really ought to be wearing a helmet while riding.
