TA Report: River Highlands & Wadsworth Falls

Date of Activity: September 8 & 10, 2010
Trail Ambassador Name: Glenn Vernes
Condition of Trail(s): Bone Dry

Observations: I rode River Highlands on Wednesday the Eighth. There was a hint of autumn in the air- crisp, cool, and dry. It was dark in the woods before seven. Summer and its long days are just about over and hopefully the heat and humidity too. I saw another rider unloading in the parking lot, but never on the trails. I picked up some trash in the parking lot. I had also gone in with the big saw to cut a tree that had fallen across one of the double tracks.

The DEP has been busy at River Highlands lately. A small bridge that collapsed late last year has been replaced (see photos), and an area at the southern end of the park, near the cul-de-sac, has been burned. Some orange tape has also been put up, why I don't know. I was busy myself, clearing the many trees that came down during last weekend's rain and wind. Trails were in fine shape notwithstanding the blow downs.

I rode Wadsworth Falls on Friday the tenth. Again, there was another rider unloading in the parking lot, but I never saw him on the trails. The trails were in great shape, very dry, although some blow downs as well including a very large tree on one of the unmarked single tracks. The trunk will require a chain saw and skilled operator to clear, but the limbs can be cut with a hand saw, making a challenging little up and over. Feel free to join us for the pre-meeting ride at Wadsworh on Wednesday the 15th. 5pm in the main parking lot on rt. 157.
