TA Report: Upper Paugussett State Forest

Date of Activity: 8/12/2010
Trail Conditions: Very good.

Observations: Took a big 2 hour ride with CTNEMBA president Mark Lurie this morning. We did the Gussy backwards and then forwards with a monster climb on the other side of the Polly Brody fire road. The trails were still a little damp from rain the other day, but its not enough rain as many of the trees are dropping their leaves. There were sections where the trails were covered looking very much like the fall.

It was a blast doing Gussy backwards and then forwards; two very different experiences. Lots of climbing and lots of fun features much of which we captured on video and photo (Mark published the videos in a post on his blog, Cycle Snack called Early Morning Endo).

The short log ride was still a little slippery. I cleared it fine on the backwards route, but forwards my back wheel slid off again and this time I pinch flatted.

Quick mechanical break and then we were back on our way.

Not much trail work to do, but Mark cleared the horse treats on the wetspot.

That nice BMW truck was again in the lot in the same exact spot. I thought there might be a problem but Mark was quick to point out that the engine was warm. Probably a runner or hiker.
