TA Report: Pequonnock River Valley (aka Trumbull) 5-29-10

Saturday, May 29th, 2010
Condition of Trails: Dry, Woods were humid and buggy
Observations and Encounters: Got to the park around 5 pm and rode in from Whitney Ave. I yellow blazed more of the central trail moving southward from the orange stream (a.k.a. rusty river)

Talked to a hiker I met who pointed out some senseless vandalism. At the Slab Rock Clearing, there were recently axed trees felled nearby a newly-constructed firepit. Considering (1) there's dead wood all over the park and (2) fires aren't allowed -- this was sheer lunacy! I've seen more than 6 or 7 fire pits in the park this year -- all we need is a forest fire here due to some clueless idiots....

It was buggy, hot and humid even tho' it was later in the day. I'll scope out and blaze more of the yellow further south in the coming weeks....
