Date of Activity: April 11, 2010
Condition of Trail(s): Well used, wet near the creek.
Trail Ambassador Name: Paula Burton, Glenn Vernes
Trail Ambassador Email: glennvernes33athotmaildotcom
Town: Middlebury
Location: Hop Brook Dam Recreation Area
Trail(s) Ridden: Race course
How did you use the trail?: Mountain Bike
What was the time of day?: afternoon
Duration (Hours): 1.5
Distance (Miles): 8 or 10
Observations: The gate was still closed and the overflow lot full, so we had to park in the commuter lot up by the highway, and ride about a mile on a busy road with minimal shoulder. The gate opens later this month.
Hop Brook is a fun little place, good for an hour or two of riding, but plan on doing some climbing. Trails were well used, not surprising given the big race the day before. Some wet areas at the bottom of the hill, near the creek. Trails are fast, moderately technical, with a lot of rock, a lot of long moderate climbs, and a few short steep ones. The bigest challenge is the short, steep climbs. It was my first time, but I'll be coming back again. Did I mention there's a lot of climbing?
