TA Report: Upper Paugussett State Forest

Date of Activity: January 6, 2010
Trail Ambassador Name: Mark Lurie
Trail Ambassador Email: eatsleepfishatgmaildotcom

Town: Newtown
Location: Upper Paugussett State Forest
Trails Ridden: Poly Brody Forest Road, Upper Gussy Trail
How did you use the trail: Mountain Bike
Duration: 1 hour
Distance: 5 miles
Trail Conditions: Snowy

Observations: Snow is perfect for riding. Poly Brody is pretty well tracked by people but easily rideable, without studs even. The shock came with the ATV tracks on the Upper Gussy Trail. The ATV went pretty far in this time. Hopefully, because of the snow no real damage to the trail happened but it appears more effort will be needed to ATV proof the trail some more. Of course what would really help is if the DEP would block off the section of the forest across from Silver City Lane at Hanover Rd that is so wide open a truck can drive in there. I know, if you block it off there they will just find another place to come into the forest but while they are looking all it takes is someone to spot them and either call the police or call the DEP Law Enforcement.
