Town: Middletown Location: Wadsworth Falls State Park

Summary of work: High winds of the previous weekend created many blown down trees and limbs. I spent 4 hours in the park with my Trail Ambassabor saw and an 18v cordless reciprocating saw w/ 10" brush blade.

I removed a 16" log wedged at waist level on the Laurel Brook Trail. Two hikers assisted swinging the cut section into a safe place. On the white trail, I cut and removed several 4-6" limbs. The straight parts were used to prop up a larger log into a small pile. A go-around was left for hikers and beginner MTB'ers. On the red Cedar Loop trail, two dead evergreens completely blocking the trail were cut and removed, and small logs were collected and used as corduoroy in a poorly draining section.

Much brush, several smaller trees, and many sticks were cleared from almost every trail in the park. A very large tree across the main trail was referred to Alex Sokolow of the CT DEP for removal by park staff. Alex also granted permission for the power tool. Clean logs that displayed chain ring marks, and/or were rideable and easily navigable on foot were left as-is.
