TA Report: Pequonnock River Valley (aka Trumbull)

TA Report: Pequonnock River Valley (aka Trumbull)

Condition of Trails: Dry

Saturday, June 18, 2009

Trail Ambassador Name: Rich C

Trail Ambassador Email: mtnbikerdad[at]yahoo[dot]com

Town: Trumbull

Location: Pequonnock Valley State Forest

Trails Ridden: Various

How did you use the trail?: Hiking, TM

What was the time of day? Morning

Duration (Hours): 2.5

Observations:

Due to heavy rains this year, the trail to the north footbridge has undergone serious erosion. Although the trail is just a short jaunt from the rail bed to the bridge, it was built on a fall line and the rail bed itself is starting to washout.

As an alternative to hikers and bikers, I reopened the bramble trail (a hundred feet south). It was extensively overgrown -- a dense thicket of pricklers needed cutting - ouch!

Is this a sustainable solution? No -- with a couple of years, unless trimming is scheduled, it will grow back. Nature has it ways...

What you need to do is block off this trail and redirect everyone over to the new trail connector!

The good news. . . great to have the trail reopenned. Thanks!

The bad news. . . as of 7/29 a tree fell and is blocking the reopenned section.
