Trail Report: Upper Paugussett State Forest

Date of Activity:5-10-09
Trail Ambassador Name: Mark Lurie
Trail Ambassador Email: eatsleepfish[at]gmail[dot]com
Town: Newtown
Location: Upper Paugussett State Forest
Trail(s) Ridden: Upper Gussy, Poly Brody
How did you use the trail?: Mountain Biking
What was the time of day?: 8AM
Duration (Hours): 1 hour
Distance (Miles): 5
Condition of Trails(s): Earthy, not dry but not damp. Some muddy spots on the Gussy and some wet spots on the Poly Brody.

Observations: Lots of new waffle prints in the newly benched areas. Repaired two up-and-overs that I had some trouble with and cleared a lot blow downs.
This section of the trail needs to be armored and fortunately there are plenty of flat rocks nearby. I think this will be one of the projects for National Trails Day. More armoring is needed at the third stream crossing and something needs to be done a little further up the trail, too.
